There has been a buzz of speculation for weeks that Apple would debut a mobile ad platform that would make it easy for a developer to plug ads into apps for the iPhone and other Apple devices. Well the speculation is over! Apple announced today that it will be inserting themselves into the mobile advertising market in a direct challenge to Google with their service dubbed “iAd”.
Apple’s iAd platform is expected to be based on its January acquisition of ad firm Quattro Wireless. That purchase came relatively soon after Google’s announcement that it had agreed to purchase AdMob, which Apple had also reportedly considered purchasing.
More to come.
